Skin AI Frequently Asked
The honest answers to the questions we hear most about Skin Reading.
These are the six questions we hear most often about Skin AI. Each answer is short, honest, and written in the same voice we use across the OVESSI Library. If you have a question that is not here, send it to us and we will add it.
How does Skin AI decide what my skin needs
Skin AI uses pattern recognition trained on thousands of images. It looks at texture, tone, visible oil, dryness, and surface detail. Then it maps what it sees to a set of known skin states. The algorithm does not diagnose medical conditions. It estimates where your skin sits on a spectrum of dryness, oiliness, sensitivity, and clarity. From that estimate, it suggests which of the five OVESSI rituals may suit you. The suggestions are starting points, not fixed verdicts. Your own experience always matters more than the output of a model.
The system updates as you upload new images. If your skin changes with the season or your cycle, the tool will reflect that shift. It does not store a permanent profile. Each reading is independent. That means you can check in as often as you like without the tool assuming your skin should stay the same.
Can I trust the results if my lighting is poor
Lighting affects every image analysis tool, and Skin AI is no exception. Poor lighting can flatten texture, hide oil, or exaggerate shadows. The algorithm tries to compensate, but it cannot invent detail that is not there. For the most reliable reading, use natural daylight near a window. Avoid direct sun on your face, harsh overhead bulbs, or dim rooms. If the lighting is uneven, the tool may misread your skin type or miss signs of dryness.
We do not require studio conditions. A well-lit bathroom or bedroom is enough. Just make sure your face is evenly lit and free of strong colour casts. If the result feels wrong, retake the photo in better light and compare. The tool will give you a different reading if the image quality improves. Consistency in lighting will help you track changes over time.
What if the ritual suggestion does not match how my skin feels
Trust your skin over the algorithm. Skin AI offers a considered guess based on what it can see in a single image. It cannot feel tightness, itch, or warmth. It does not know your history, your cycle, or your stress levels. If the suggested ritual feels wrong, choose a different one. The five rituals are not rigid categories. They are layered templates you can adjust.
You can also return to the tool after a week or two and take a new reading. Skin changes. The algorithm will reflect that change if you give it a fresh image. Some people find the tool most useful as a check-in, not a prescription. Use it when you feel uncertain, then trust your hands and your mirror for the rest.
What it is not
Skin AI is not a dermatologist. It does not diagnose rosacea, eczema, acne, or any other medical condition. It cannot prescribe treatment or replace professional advice. If your skin is inflamed, painful, or behaving in a way that worries you, see a doctor. The tool is also not a permanent answer. It gives you a snapshot based on one image at one moment. Your skin will shift, and the ritual that suits you today may not suit you in three months. Skin AI is a quiet tool for everyday guidance, not a fixed system.
Where to go next
If you want to understand how the tool works in more depth, visit the main Skin Reading page. To explore all five rituals and see which one feels right without the algorithm, go to All five rituals. Once you have chosen a ritual, you can document your experience and compare notes with others on the Share your ritual page. These pages work together as a quiet system for understanding your skin.
Common questions
Does Skin AI work on all skin tones? The training set includes a range of tones, but no algorithm is perfect across every variation.
Can I use the tool more than once a day? Yes, but your skin will not change that quickly, so one reading per week is usually enough.
Will the tool remember my previous readings? No, each image is analysed independently without reference to past uploads.
