The first step of every K-beauty ritual : remove the day without taking the barrier with it. Soft creams, oils, and gels for a gentle finish.

BY CONCERN · CLEANSING

Remove the day without taking the barrier with it.

Cleansing is the foundation of every OVESSI ritual, and the step most often done wrong. The Korean layered approach begins with an oil or balm to lift sebum and SPF, followed by a milk or foam that rinses clean without disrupting the acid mantle. Soft finish, barrier intact, ready for what comes next. Two steps, two minutes, the whole day lifted away.

FREQUENTLY ASKED

Cleansing questions

What is a double cleanse and do I always need it?
A double cleanse means an oil-based first step to dissolve sunscreen and makeup, followed by a water-based second step to remove what remains. On days without SPF or heavy coverage, a single gentle wash is enough. If you wore both, two steps protect the barrier better than one aggressive one.
Will a cleansing oil break me out?
A well-formulated cleansing oil rinses completely clean and leaves no pore-clogging residue. OVESSI cleansing oils are composed to emulsify on contact with water and lift away without a film. If you are prone to congestion, the milk or foam second step ensures nothing stays behind.
How hot should the water be?
Lukewarm. Hot water degrades the barrier lipids that keep skin cushioned and resilient. Cold water does not activate the rinse as well. A temperature you would hold your wrist under comfortably is the right range.
How does cleansing connect to the rest of the ritual?
Every active that follows, whether toner, serum, or moisturiser, penetrates more evenly on a freshly and gently cleansed surface. Cleansing well is not optional skincare, it is the preparation that makes the rest of the ritual worth doing.
