Cocoa butter is a solid vegetable fat at room temperature that melts on contact with skin, delivering a dense emollient layer that seals moisture and softens rough patches on elbows, heels, and very dry body areas. Its fatty acid profile, predominantly stearic and oleic acids, provides lasting occlusion without the tackiness of mineral-derived alternatives. Is cocoa butter suitable for the face?
Cocoa butter has a high comedogenic rating and is generally not recommended for facial use, particularly on oily or blemish-prone skin. It performs best on the body where pore congestion is less of a concern and the need for occlusive emollience is higher.
Does cocoa butter have a strong scent?
Unrefined cocoa butter has a warm, characteristic chocolate scent. OVESSI body formulas that use cocoa butter use a refined or deodorised form to reduce the scent profile and keep the formula compatible with fragrance-sensitive skin.
Can cocoa butter help with stretch marks?
Topical emollients including cocoa butter help maintain skin suppleness and may reduce the appearance of stretch marks on the surface, particularly when applied consistently from early in a period of skin stretching. The evidence for reversing existing stretch marks is more limited.
How do I use cocoa butter in the body ritual?
